St Anne’s Catholic School Evaluates Learn to lead after their first year.

Posted on Sep 7, 2014 in Learn to lead

St Anne’s Catholic School, a secondary and sixth form School in Southampton, evaluate their involvement with the Learn to lead programme. By the end of the first year they had 5 teams made up of 54 students. All teams have had the Learn to Lead training and have started on the road to meeting their aims.

An evaluation session at the end of the year gave students the chance to reflect on the year and discuss how their teams have got on, how the process has worked, and the impact it has had on their sense of involvement in the life of the school.

83% have had a positive change in their sense of involvement in the school community, 13% have had no change, and 3 % have had a negative change. The pupils who have had a negative change commented on the difficulties faced with not being told what to do and leading others, however, two of these three want to continue with a team next year.

Here are just a few of the students views on Learn to lead

• fun and a bit hard. Responsibility is on us but it’s so fun.
• The programme helped me.
• It’s a good idea to get pupils to help improve the school.
• It is fun and I want to take it further.
• I feel like it is a good experience, however the students take it seriously.
• It has taught me how hard it is to be in a group and agree on things.
• I feel a lot more confident and it gives me something to do.
• It has made me realise that it’s hard to organise everybody.
• I love it!
• I feel a lot more confident in a large group.
• It has shown me that it is very difficult to get everyone to do what they say and that it is hard to make a change.
• I should go to more learn to lead meetings.
• I think it’s great and has made me more confident and I like the other people I work with.
• It helps to see how hard every type of work is.
• It has made me feel like I have more of a say about what happens in school.
• It is really good but we did waste a lot of time.
• The programme has made me confident to speak what I feel.
• I feel happy about the Learn to lead.
• The Learn to lead team has boosted my confidence a lot and it’s a chance to say our ideas.
• I feel that the learn to lead programme has made me feel much more confident within the school community.
• I love the programme, it goes me a lot more confidence.
• The team is fantastic

That’s just the first few on the list! the rest of the evaluation makes fantastic reading and thank you so much for sharing it with us and we look forward to hearing much more in your second year.
